Morning

Phew... I talked to Mark's nurse this morning. His temp is down to 100 and he has been responding nicely. They took ventric #3 out today and he only has one remaining. This alone is an amazing step. They planned to begin weaning him from his ventilator today, I hope that's still in the plan. Will keep you posted.

The weaning can be scary but it means it's time for him to do everything on his own.
The road forward has opened up and that is a great relief.

Dear Mark and Chris,
There are ups and downs, but as long as the ups are beeter, longer and more frequent, things are good.
I sure wish there was something I could do, but I hang in there and pray.
I appreciate this blog as it keeps me from wonder/worrying.
Hey Mark, think about the spring nationals...you have to be there so you can shoot worse than me so I won't have to be the bottom man in the company (but then you shoot better than me anyway).
Think positive.

I've been focusing - odd as it may sound - on gratitude that Mark's current condition is what it is - pain and discomfort and all - rather than hearing of him simply dropping dead in the middle of the street, or having this happen 50 years ago, when the doctors would have shrugged and given their condolences to the family.

Mark, I'm damn glad that you and I live in the days of helicopters, computers, effective antibiotics, pain meds, and fast communication. I know that you're going through a rough time right now... but spare, if you can, a thought for the good things. You're here, you're getting better (yeah, there are ups and downs, but any stock broker worth his salt would have bought the hell out of a trend with a curve like yours long ago), and I'm even looking forward - painful as it's likely to be - to your self-deprecating wisecracks about the experience.

Keep on breathing, bro. Keep healing. Keep some of that trademark gruff optimism around; more than anything else, even more than your physical toughness, this is the thing on which my hopes for your survival and recovery have always rested.
You've still got a hell of a lot of dreams to chase, to make real, to enjoy. Stick around. Life gets to be a hell of a lot better than right now.

Several people a day at work ask about your progress--people you haven't even met--a testament to how special Chris is (and you, I guess, by association, ha!). Now get better so you can be with her!

Mark:
Word came to me through my staff of your hospitalization. Same problem as I have, as I understand it. This screwy blood vessel thing in the brain is a real drag, huh? Oh, well, I got through it - you will too.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery,

Yo Mark, enough already !! Get your butt outta that bed and let's get going onto rehab. You can't love that hospital food that much! The prayer list is going strong, got candles lit and lots of folks asking about you each day. Am sending lots of positive thoughts and wishes to you and Chris - keep healing as we need to go for sushi in the new year.
