High Noon

Good News! Mark's blood became thick enough for surgery and he will be going down in 15 minutes for his procedure.

So, instead of going to the hospital, I'm heading home because my younger daughter Maureen was in a car accident this morning. She's fine, just shaken up and needs a little comforting. I just need a drink!

Let's home for some great news tonight.

The shunt isn’t working, WHY? Isn't this the second time a shunt malfunctioned. Chris, could you, if you have not already asked them why the Shunts stop working? I'm curious.

Wow. They way you describe the stuff they're doing, or going to do in Mark's head sounds chillingly similar to when I installed a drip irrigation system in our garden. Hang in there all of you. Keep the faith. And thanks for keeping us updated Chris!

There are lots of reasons shunts stop working, a buildup of proteins, blood remaining in the ventricles that's still disolving, etc. They think it probably stopped working when he got to rehab, and that's why his condition worsened and they sent him back to the hospital. But this is the first shunt and the first malfunction.

But on a postive note, even though the shunt probably hasn't worked since last Wednesday, his intracranial pressures were very low. Hopefully the pressures they fill test today in the back have been low also.

Get Dick to break out some single malt. You surely need a "wee dram", or two. Slante, and to a better tomorrow.

It's not uncommon for scar tissue to build up around anything inserted in the body. It's very common especially with catheters.
