Mark, we just had to get on the bandwagon to wish you well.

Dick, it's good to hear from you and that you arrived safely.

All of you, Mark, Dick and Barbara, Chris, and Maggie are in our constant thoughts.

Mark and Family,
Was thrilled to read about your improvements no matter how small. If there's any way that prayers and positive thoughts can make you well sooner - - boatloads are coming your way. Hurry up and get out of ICU - do I have stories for you!
Love to all,
Joyce

Mark,

Though I haven't met you yet I had the honor of knowing about you from Sue. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. GET WELL SOON!

Mark, as another friend of Sue who hasn't met you yet, you will have to bring Christine, Sue, Mike and Maureen to NYC to see the tree and visit us!!

Mark, as your first cousin, I know you have a tough "constitution." That fact, coupled with an innate need to talk for long periods will undoubtedly pull you through this temporary set-back. Hurry up and get out of that damned hospital so we can go down to the St. Augustine house and tell some more stories, drink good Scotch and eat mounds of fresh seafood. We'll talk soon. Love ya "cuz",

Hey Mark,
I sent in a photo of us at Winchester last spring--was a good time. We have plenty more we have to do so you work on getting back to form...I'm pulling for you!
You know you are a hell of a lucky guy having a wonderful woman who is by your side--she cares. And with care like that you just have to get better.

In theory, this is supposed to be for Mark after he gets done with all of this, gets out of the hospital, and is sitting at his favorite Mac - all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed - and reading our best wishes. So, since I completely believe that this vision will come to pass, here's a message in a digital bottle to that future Mark:

-----------------------------
You shmuck - whatja *do* that for? If you wanted to pull some sort of an attention-gaining stunt, we would all have happily looked at photos of you, say, bungie-jumping or polar bear wrestling, and gone "Yep; that's Mark, all right."

Many of us - and you know who your "crazy" friends are - would have clapped and encouraged you, too. Not that you need any encouragement, but "friends help you move; real friends help you move bodies". We'd have been right there checking the bungees before the jump, or cross-checking each other's harnesses as we got ready to do it alongside of you.

This passage, buddy... this wasn't something we could share. We thought of you, sent you our best hopes and wishes, gritted our teeth in terminal frustration that we couldn't just reach out and somehow give you a hand... but this one, you had to do alone.

We sure missed the hell out of you. And we're sure glad to see you back.
-----------------------------

Lots of love, bro. Get back here as soon as you can; you've got some letters to read.

You look very content there in your relaxed element....just grayer my friend. Remember Claris and all the crazy Halloween parties and how you helped Ops come up with great themes. Guess who still has the sand.....I'll send some for your party when Chris and your family break you out of there along with sea shells.

Luv ya boss.....get you butt out of that bed ASAP...there are stories to write and adventures yet to be done.

Please give Mark my best and tell him I'll come and wake him up if he doesn't get out of there soon. That ought to scare him! I'm the ICU nurse/former Claris/FileMaker friend/co-worker and he sounds like he's doing really well. You are so well informed and deliver the news so well.

As I've told many of my patients with neuro problems like this, it is a marathon, not a sprint and there's many walls to hit (which it sounds like he managed to do) and then you and he just keep going. The trach/PEG are common treats and heal well when he no longer needs them. The trach is especially good for YOU....you can now see the real HIM again and enjoy those puckers.! Enjoy that and give him a kiss for me. Linda
