Evening
Today was basically the same as yesterday. He was off the vent during the day, but they do put him back on at night for a rest. He didn't open his eyes much today, but when he did I saw more recoginition than yesterday. He still communicates with hand squeezes. He's moving in the right direction, looking forward to Tuesday to see what they recommend next.

My Mother (God rest Her Soul), was on a vent for 6 months. She had swelling of the brain, etc. and was given 6 months at the most to live. She outlived the Doctor...... I decided that if she was going to die, it should be at home. We started talking to her..... She could hear what we said and it helped in bringing her back. She lived 6 more years with dignity. We rebuilt her memory, one day at a time. We would sit and tell her who she was, who her family was and relived specific incidents in our lives. One day we wheeled her into a 'community' day room that had a piano in it. I placed her in front of the key board and she played "Amazing Grace".... one note at a time then building on that until it was a complete song. The Medical staff was amazed. The human spirit is truly amazing and the will to live is a strong medicine. I have witnessed this several times in my life and I pray Mark (Rico) has the same inspiration. We may never know what a kind and encouraging word will do, but it doesn't hurt to share it.

The picture of mom amid the day lillies absolutely took my breath away.
